Alcami and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Enter Third Year of Environmental Stewardship Program

Environmental protection, sustainable conservation, and natural habitat preservation remain key components of Alcami’s community outreach activities, and for the third consecutive year, company volunteers collaborated with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) trail coordinators and park superintendents to improve and renovate the Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest – one of the Wisconsin State Park System’s most popular destinations.

Alcami Pays Tribute to Fallen Patriots this Memorial Day

Alcami joined the nation in remembering and honoring fallen members of the U.S. Armed Forces this Memorial Day with a donation to the Purple Heart Foundation and a strong public showing of support for longtime Alcami employee and Vietnam veteran, Herman Anthony.

In a special tribute to the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our country, Anthony was invited by the Milwaukee Brewers to participate in a May 26 ceremony on the Miller Park playing field during the national anthem.

Alcami Supports Homestead High School’s Varsity Robotics Club

Alcami continues to make science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and training initiatives a priority in 2019, this time partnering with Homestead High School in Mequon, Wisconsin, to support the school’s growing robotics club. The company has agreed to sponsor Homestead’s 2019 competitions and demonstrations, which will help its club purchase new computers and 3D printers. On average, teams invest approximately $4,000 to build a robot from the ground up and participate in competitions.

Alcami and Students 2 Science Inspire Future Scientists

Students 2 Science (S2S) is a New Jersey-based nonprofit committed to inspiring and educating elementary, middle, and high school students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Through strategic partnerships between businesses, institutions of higher education, district leadership, and workforce-readiness agencies, S2S provides students with real life laboratory problem-solving experiences led by scientific professionals using modern technology and instrumentation. S2S’s V-Laboratory educational program enlists corporate partners such as Alcami to serve as in-class mentors and help introduce students to the broad spectrum of STEM careers available to them.

Alcami Celebrates Earth Day with Community Cleanups

Alcami employees, their families, and friends celebrated Earth Day 2019 by cleaning up green spaces, beaches, waterways, sidewalks, and streets in the company’s local communities. More than 30 volunteers participated in this year’s preservation efforts, including cleanups at Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, and Isle of Palms Beach, near Wilmington, North Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina; business park and nature trail litter removal in Germantown, Wisconsin; and growing new plant life in Durham, North Carolina. Combined, these efforts will protect native wildlife and enhance public gathering places for all to enjoy.

Beyond the Bench: UNC Wilmington Classroom to cGMP Laboratories

Alcami and the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) have partnered on an academic program that connects education and work experiences for students pursuing scientific careers, especially in pharmaceutical sciences. This edition of the Beyond the Bench series will highlight the laboratory-based course taught at UNCW’s state-of-the-art marine biotechnology center (MARBIONC), “Current Good Pharmaceutical Quality Control Laboratory Practice,” focused on the application of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) in a drug development and testing laboratory.

In 2016, leaders from Alcami and UNCW met to discuss potential opportunities to work together on biopharmaceutical projects. Many of Alcami’s Wilmington employees are UNCW graduates, and Alcami has a long history working with the university on employee education programs and pharmaceutical projects. Steve Fontana, JD, from UNCW’s Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization; UNCW Chancellor Dr. Jose V. Sartarelli, and Alcami President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Stephan Kutzer initiated conversations that resulted in the development of the present partnership.

Alcami STEAM Outreach Efforts Aim to Inspire Students, Advance Workforce

Alcami expanded its Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) education initiatives this fall with three specialized outreach events designed to encourage high school and college students to pursue careers in chemistry, engineering, and other STEAM fields. 

On October 30, 2018, Divine Savior Holy Angels High School (DSHA) students got a behind-the-scenes look at Alcami’s Germantown, Wisconsin active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) Center of Excellence, as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to promote women in STEAM careers. The all-girls engineering class toured the campus, met with key female company leaders, and learned about potential career paths through interactive presentations.

Alcami Employee Recognized with Honor Flight

The nonprofit Honor Flight Network honors America’s military veterans for their sacrifices by transporting as many of them as possible to see the Washington, D.C. memorials of the wars they fought in, at no cost to them. Alcami employee and Vietnam veteran, Herman Anthony, was recently selected for an Honor Flight, and was accompanied by Milwaukee Brewers all-star relief pitcher, Corey Knebel. Herman received a hero’s welcome at the Milwaukee airport from Alcami colleagues, friends, family, and the general public. He recently spoke with Alcami's Marketing & Corporate Communications team to discuss his experience.

Alcami and UNCW Awarded Biomanufacturing Workforce Development Grant

Project Call 1.0 Proposal Selected by NIIMBL Governing Committee

Durham, NC (USA) – August 30, 2018 – Alcami Corporation, a leading provider of fully-integrated custom end-to-end solutions for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), North Carolina’s globally-minded research and development university, today announce they have been awarded an educational grant from the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL), an organization comprised of companies, educational institutions, nonprofits, and state governments dedicated to accelerating biopharmaceutical manufacturing innovation, developing industry standards, and educating and training a pipeline of skilled workers for the field’s abundant well-paying jobs. The grant will fund the UNCW program “Partnership for Workforce Development in the Biopharmaceutical Industry,” which will be co-developed and taught by Alcami subject matter experts.

Volunteers from Alcami’s Germantown, Wisconsin Center of Excellence for active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) development, scale-up, and commercialization will work alongside Wisconsin DNR trail coordinators and park superintendents to renovate the popular state trails.
