FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT SPOTLIGHT: Devon Dodd

Name: Devon Dodd
Alcami Site: Wilmington, NCScientist Spotlight

How long have you been with Alcami?

I've been part of the Alcami team since November 2017.

What is your role?

Formulation Development Scientist - Parenterals

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I would say it's two-fold. First, delivering new drugs to patients to improve quality of life or to save lives just never gets old. We're not a big pharmaceutical company, but we touch so many lives– and that is both exciting and humbling. Second, we partner with clients as close-knit teams to deliver the best possible products we can. I really enjoy the journey with clients, from proof of concept to market delivery.

What are your team’s latest achievements?

We recently completed a year-long journey of research and development in the first phase of a project. Our team began with an extensive testing funnel, evaluating three potential technologies for an indication. Now we have narrowed the field down to one technology and a potential formulation. We're ready to further optimize the formulation, develop a formulation process, and transfer the formulation package to our GMP facility to manufacture supplies for proof of concept studies.

How do you see those accomplishments affecting the pharmaceutical and biotech industries?

Preclinical development challenges the team's problem-solving skills. You really have to innovate to find creative solutions to those novel therapies challenges. Plus, the knowledge we gain from this project will only make us better.
