QUALITY SPOTLIGHT: Elizabeth Oxendine

Name: Elizabeth OxendineScientistSpotlight_Dec.png

Alcami Site: Durham, NC

How long have you been with Alcami?

I started at Alcami in 2000.

What is your role?

I am a Quality Specialist III with a focus on report generation and review of equipment validations and am currently training to become an audit host for the Durham site. I have also had the unique opportunity to explore several other areas of the company from sample receipt to test procedure generation.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is knowing we are ultimately helping the individuals who take the medicine we test, research, or manufacture at Alcami. As a childhood cancer survivor, I have experienced first-hand lifesaving medicine and research, and I am proud to be part of that now as an adult.

What are your team’s latest achievements?

Durham’s achievements this year include the successful, long-term manufacturing support (release) and routine (stability) testing of a rare genetic disorder drug, which contributed to FDA approval. We are happy the Durham Analytical and Quality teams supported the testing of this product and contributed to its final approval. This orphan drug will save lives and/or improve the quality of lives of roughly 15,000 people in the US.

How do you see those accomplishments affecting the pharmaceutical industry?

I hope our accomplishments encourage pharmaceutical companies to never lose sight of the importance of the individuals who benefit from our work. They are one of the reasons why I chose this career. We all play a part in possibly giving a future to someone who otherwise might have lost hope.
